Dr. Jesse Robinson, Clinical Psychologist and Founder of Action Psychological Services

Dr. Jesse Robinson, PsyD

Professionally, I’m a Licensed Psychologist (LP) and Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP).  My primary clinical work is at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEBVAMC) where I counsel Veterans within the Substance Disorder Treatment Program. While I feel honored to work with Veterans each day, I am also extremely grateful to support members of the community in which I grew up - even if it is just part-time. In fact, that is the purpose of ACTION Psychological Services (APS) - to support the members of my community. I’m currently scheduling therapy appointments several evenings per week and the occasional Saturday and/or Sunday morning at APS.

While the majority of my clinical training has been with young adults, I’m particularly interested in working with late adolescence through late-adulthood (approximately 15 years and older). Having a few teenagers of my own, I’m keenly aware of the challenges young people experience growing up in a high-achieving community. It can be difficult for parents when we see our children attach their self-worth to peer-comparisons made via social media or otherwise. The truth is, humans are susceptible to emotional pain throughout the life-span. Let me know if you need help managing unhelpful thoughts and feelings. I’m here to support you.

What I Do.

Action Psychological Services (APS) is about helping our client’s live rich and meaningful lives. While emotional pain is an inevitable part of the human experience, it CAN be managed effectively. Additionally, one does not have to suffer alone and lost.  Engaging in therapy with a licensed clinician can be an effective way to overcome obstacles and improve one’s mental health.  At APS, I aim to help clients process emotion, clarify direction for their lives, and take ACTION toward meaningful change.

How I Do It.

I use an eclectic approach to therapy by incorporating evidence-based modalities, such as cognitive-behavioral, person-centered, and mindfulness-based practices.  Your therapy will likely consist of a combination of approaches selected to be most effective for you.  While some clients require far less counseling support (sometimes a solution-focused, single session), others benefit from more long-term services.  You and I will discuss duration of services based on your unique counseling goals.

Why I Do It.

Providing psychological services within my hometown (The Woodlands, TX) has long been a professional goal.  In my work with clients, our “core values” is a frequent topic of conversation (i.e., what we want to stand for in life).  Well, connecting, helping, and loving are a few words that describe my primary, personal values.  I’m committed to showing up for my clients authentically and non-judgmentally.  Behaving in ways consistent with core values provides a sense of vitality and purpose in life.  Supporting other humans in their journey is incredibly meaningful for me, and why I do what I do. It should also be noted that I value working with clients from diverse communities, and do so from a place of compassion, curiosity, and cultural humility.
